- THIS HYPERTEXT SYSTEM
- =====================
-
- This is a first cut of the hypertext version of a Ph.D. dissertation on
- the topic of hypertext itself. The hard copy of the dissertation was
- produced in 1991, at Texas Woman's University, School of Library and
- Information Studies, by Ernest R. Perez.
-
- This hyperdocument contains four complementary avenues of access:
-
- 1) The highly linear progression of the academic paper;
- 2) The limited hierarchy provided by the Table of Contents node;
- 3) The "Glossary" module, a limited online KWOC index to the
- contents;
- 4) The SEARCH text-searching module, for free-text access.
-
- This hypertext document is free for copying, however please use
- standard citation and acknowledgement practices in the event you use
- quotations or unique concepts. If you're really doing heavyweight
- scholarly stuff, you'll probably have to refer to the hard copy of the
- official dissertation. I removed original pagination from this
- hypertext version, sorry 'bout that. Or, you can experiment with
- citation forms referencing this electronic version.
-
- The hypertext uses the HYPLUS runtime software developed by MaxThink,
- Inc. of Berkeley CA. The MaxThink software was in fact the case study
- subject for the dissertation.
-
- MaxThink publishes a full line of hypertext and authoring system
- products, particular suited for organizing complex hypertext systems.
-
- MaxThink currently (4/92) produces an Accounting/Auditing reference
- hypertext on CD-ROM, for one of the Big 6 accounting firms. This system
- currently contains approximately 200 megabytes of file space, in some
- 80,000 screens, with approximately 300,000 hypertext links. That's SOME
- hypertext system organization and management task! Details of this
- operation are covered in the dissertation text.
